How guttering works
A gutter that overflows in one place is usually not blocked. It is either sagging between brackets so the water pools and goes over the front, or the fall runs the wrong way. Clearing it makes no difference and it is back within a month.
The damage a failing gutter does is to the wall, not the roof. Water running down brickwork for a couple of winters gets into the mortar, and on a solid wall property that shows up as damp on the inside long before anybody looks up at the gutter.
Brackets are the part that decides how long a gutter run lasts. Fixed at proper centres into sound fascia timber, a uPVC gutter is fine for decades. Screwed into a soft board at whatever spacing was quickest, it will sag by the second winter.
What the job includes
- New uPVC or aluminium gutter, brackets, downpipes and hoppers
- The fall reset so water runs to the outlet instead of standing
- Brackets fixed at proper centres into sound timber
- Downpipes taken to the drain or the gully rather than onto the path
- Clearing and flushing on runs that do not need replacing
Signs you need it looking at
- Water pouring over the front edge in heavy rain
- A green stain running down the wall below a joint
- Standing water visible in the gutter when it is dry
- Gutter sagging between brackets
- Plants growing out of the run

What customers say
The team repaired a leak in my roof, delivering a brilliant service from start to finish. Competitively priced and I would highly recommend!!
I’ve just had a re-roof done by Flash roofing, we initially had 3 quote and they were by far the most competitive while making us at ease with everything they offered! Really happy with the outcome and the job was left tidy - couldn’t recommend this team enough!
Great service from start to finish. The team arrived on time, explained everything clearly, and completed the work to a high standard. The roof looks solid again, and everything was left tidy. Reliable, professional, and fairly priced, highly recommend.
FAQs
Questions we get asked
How often should gutters be cleared?
Once a year is enough for most properties, and twice for anything under trees. Around Thetford and the pine belt it is worth doing after the needles drop as well as after leaf fall.
Can you match cast iron?
Yes. There are uPVC and aluminium profiles that read as cast iron from the ground at a fraction of the weight and cost, which matters on a listed or conservation property where the look has to stay right.
Do you do guttering on its own?
Yes. It does not have to be part of a bigger roofline job, though if the fascia behind it is soft we will tell you, because new gutter on a rotten board will not last.
